Last Battle of the Boroughs Game:

This year, my teammate, Jennifer, and I had the honor of participating in the Battle of the Boroughs (BOB) for the PSAL softball league (Queens of course). Originally, two of our captains were going to attend, but the BOB game was on the day of their prom, so they decided not to participate (they did participate last year, though). Jennifer and I had the opportunity to interact with many really advanced softball players (A Division). They were all really friendly, and many of them happened to be the same age as us. This year, our team managed to win the first game, making it into the semi-finals. We played against Manhattan today, but unfortunately lost at the end.

Something really interesting that I noticed about the Queens team, though, is that we were all really supportive of each other. We definitely cheered each other on the most out of all the other teams, despite us all coming from different schools and different backgrounds. I think it might be because of all the diversity that there is in Queens, allowing us to be more accepting and more willing to open up to one another.

Unfortunately, I don't think I played that well in the entirety of the Battle of the Boroughs games: I got too nervous, and my timing was very off. I was facing off against pitchers much faster than I was used to, and that in addition to my anxiety caused me to swing at obvious balls. I do feel like it was a bit of a missed opportunity, but this only motivates me to try harder to make improvements where I believe I need them most.

Next year, I'm not sure if I will be able to participate (because of the same reason as our captains this year), but either way, I am glad that was a part of it this year. In the slideshow above, I've attached pictures of Jennifer, our former coach Virge, and myself at Randall's Island after one of our games.
