The Umpire's Bad Call (in my opinion)

Before I say anything, I am going to have to attach this video:

Okay, anyways, on May 10th, Lady Sting had a game with Long Island City High School at their home field. The game ended up as a tie by the last inning, and the umpire decided to, instead of playing overtime, just postpone the last inning until the next time we played LIC, which was today.

Today, we played our "second" game with them first––our home game. Fortunately, after battling it out, we won. After this, the continuation of our May 10th game was scheduled for 6:00 pm today, which is what we ended up doing. The slide that is being shown in the video above WOULD HAVE BEEN OUR WINNING RUN HAD THE UMPIRE CALLED IT CORRECTLY.

I cannot count the number of times that I watched this video, trying to see that maybe I was actually off base or something. But every time I re-watch it, it just convinces me even more that I was safe. Even Alisa, the one who is taking the video, can be heard audibly saying, "What?" in the video because she thought I was safe. The camera quality may not be great, but if you were to slow down the footage and keep your eyes trained on me and the ball, it is clearly shown that I arrive at the base first. Their catcher, Yaya, actually tagged me on the back of my thigh, which proves that she was chasing after me, not the other way around. Additionally, I know for a fact that this was not a force play, which means she actually had to tag me first in order to get me out––which she did not do until after I was already safe.

I know that there are still plenty of games left for us to play, but the one thing that annoys me most about this particular video is the fact that if the umpire had called the right play, we would have won that game. Instead, we kept on playing, and LIC managed to score another run. We lost be one point (that we definitely should have gotten).

Well, that is it for my rant today! Let's go Sting!
